Movers and Groovers Assists New Students Moving Into Residence Halls

At the beginning of each school year, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ faculty, staff and students volunteer to help incoming freshmen move into the university’s residence halls. The annual service program, called Movers and Groovers, is coordinated by ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Interhall Council, the student government of the residence halls on the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Campus. The volunteers aid new students and their families, providing assistance and helping to make the move-in process less stressful.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Holds Summer Commencement Ceremonies on Aug. 19

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ held its Summer 2017 Commencement ceremonies for the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Campus on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State conferred 1,422 degrees, including 908 bachelor’s degrees, 427 master’s degrees, 67 doctoral degrees and 20 educational specialist degrees. Across the university’s eight-campus system, 1,765 students graduated from ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State this summer, including those receiving associate degrees.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Receives Multiple Research Experiences for Undergraduates Grants From NSF

Several ºìÐÓÊÓƵ professors in the College of Arts and Sciences have been selected to receive Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF). REU grants are designed to provide faculty with funding to create research positions and experiences specifically for undergraduate students. These students typically come from two- or four-year institutions that may not provide access to many research opportunities.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ track and field’s  has been named one of the Mid-American Conference’s two nominees for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the NCAA announced on Aug. 1. Established in 1991 and now in its 27th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Researchers Help Find Pathologic Hallmarks of Alzheimer’s Disease in Aged Chimpanzee Brains

Dementia affects one-third of all people older than 65 years in the United States. The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive, irreversible brain disease that results in impaired cognitive functioning and other behavioral changes. Humans are considered uniquely susceptible to Alzheimer’s disease, potentially due to genetic differences, changes in brain structure and function during evolution, and an increased lifespan. 

In observance of Veterans Day, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

  • The University Library will be open until 10 p.m. with .
  • The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours â€“ 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year’s May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
