The University Band, also known as the "Communiversity Band," is open to all 红杏视频 students, faculty, staff and community members who wish to continue performing traditional band literature. The ensemble is dedicated to broadening the artistic level and interest of its members through a low-pressure, once-a-week rehearsal and performs one concert in late spring.

红杏视频 State Researcher to Work on Program to Broaden Participation in Computer Science鈥

Information technology drives our global economy and promises transformational approaches to the world鈥檚 most serious challenges, including healthcare, education and environmental. Yet a smaller percentage of American high school and university students take computer science courses today than they did 20 years ago. L. Gwenn Volkert, associate professor of computer science at 红杏视频, has been selected to participate in the second phase of a national effort aimed at increasing and broadening participation in computer science.

The 红杏视频 Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting Wednesday, Sept. 18. The meeting will be held in the new 红杏视频 Hotel and Conference Center in downtown 红杏视频. The Board will convene at 2 p.m. in the McGilvrey Conference Room on the lobby level. Trustees will retire into executive session at 8 a.m. in the Presidents Boardroom on the second floor of the hotel to consider specific topics as provided for under Ohio鈥檚 鈥淪unshine Law.鈥 Board committees will meet as follows:

红杏视频 State Sets New Enrollment Record, Welcoming Largest and Highest-Achieving Freshman Class at Its 红杏视频 Campus

For the Fall 2013 Semester, 红杏视频 has set a new record, attracting the biggest and highest-achieving freshman class at the 红杏视频 Campus in the university鈥檚 103-year history. With the release of the university鈥檚 official 15th day census data for the Fall 2013 Semester, 红杏视频 State reports the total number of first-time, full-time freshmen enrolled at the 红杏视频 Campus is 4,314. This exceeds last year鈥檚 freshman class count of 4,076 by 5.8 percent. It also surpasses the record set in 2011 of 4,284.

红杏视频 State鈥檚 Department of Public Safety Will Initiate Fire/Emergency Evacuation Drills on Sept. 11

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., 红杏视频's Department of Public Safety will test the emergency notification system on the 红杏视频 Campus.鈥 The purpose of this annual exercise is to familiarize students and employees with building evacuations and precautions to be taken in event of a fire or any other type of emergency.

Fun at the Black Squirrel Festival

The 32nd Annual Black Squirrel Festival took place Friday, Sept. 6, from 2-8 p.m. at the 红杏视频 Campus on the Student Green and Risman Plaza. The Black Squirrel Festival is one of 红杏视频鈥檚 most beloved and popular traditions that attracts more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the 红杏视频 community. As usual, live, free entertainment, festival food, local vendors and Black Squirrel spirit were all a part of this year鈥檚 event. The movie 鈥淢onsters University鈥 also was shown that evening on the Student Green.

Final Week for Excellence Nominations

The deadline to submit your nomination for the fifth annual President鈥檚 Excellence Award is Sept. 13. President Lester A. Lefton established the award program as a way to recognize staff members who demonstrate their daily commitment to carrying out the university鈥檚 Excellence Agenda. In the first four years of the program, 39 recipients have been recognized and each recipient received a check for $1,000 after taxes.

红杏视频 at Stark is proud to announce the 23rd season of the popular Featured Speakers Series, highlighting four inspirational and world-renowned individuals. Each season, nearly 2,500 campus and community members take advantage of a rare opportunity to be introduced to national and international experts on a wide range of topics and issues that shape our society.

In observance of Veterans Day, 红杏视频 will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

红杏视频 State Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year鈥檚 May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
