ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State’s Liquid Crystal Institute to Celebrate “50 Years of Innovationâ€

The Glenn H. Brown Liquid Crystal Institute® and the College of Arts and Sciences at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ hosted a 50th anniversary celebration of the institute on Friday, Sept. 25, in the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Student Center Kiva on the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Campus. The event kicked off a yearlong celebration that will culminate with the International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC) at the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Campus on July 31-Aug. 5, 2016.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ’s School of Communication Studies will host the sixth Centennial Award Celebration on Friday, Oct. 2, to honor two alumni and one professor emeritus. The annual event is an opportunity for the school’s alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends to celebrate and recognize the achievements of communication studies professionals. These awards recognize and honor alumni who, through leadership, character and hard work, have made exceptional contributions in their chosen field, in their communities and at ºìÐÓÊÓƵ. The following alumni have been selected for these awards: Larry Disbro, ’71, ’73; Master of Education, ’78 and Sandy Disbro, ’75; ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Advocacy Award. The Disbros reside in Mentor. Larry is a former educational administrator and Sandy a teacher.

Poynter ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Media Ethics Workshop to Focus on “Enduring Traumaâ€

Attend in person all day or for specific sessions, live web stream available for main presentations Covering trauma – a tragic accident, a horrendous attack, a sickening court case, a catastrophic weather event – exposes journalists and victims to complicated questions about ethics, privacy and responsibility. This year’s Poynter ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Media Ethics Workshop will delve into significant topics including re-victimization, extreme crisis communication, campus sexual assault and the impacts of social media on trauma incidents and victims.

In observance of Veterans Day, ºìÐÓÊÓƵ will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. ºìÐÓÊÓƵ will be participating in this test.

ºìÐÓÊÓƵ State Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year’s May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
