Bruno Ast, who designed ������Ƶ's May 4 Memorial as a place of reflection and remembrance, has died at age 88. The architect won a national competition in 1986 to create the memorial, which was dedicated on May 4, 1990, as part of the 20th commemoration of the day four students were killed and nine wounded by Ohio National Guardsmen who opened fire during an anti-war demonstration.The memorial, which overlooks the Commons on the ������Ƶ Campus, is constructed of carnelian granite, a stone associated with strength and time. More students who want to be nurses will soon be able to pursue that dream. ������Ƶ's College of Nursing is launching a new pathway that will allow students without high school mathematics, chemistry or biology courses to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. The actual “brainchild” of ������Ƶ Professor Emeritus Brinsley Tyrrell, the Behind the Brain Plaza, was completed and dedicated in 2000. It is located behind Merrill Hall in the Beck Family Memorial Gardens on the ������Ƶ Campus.  Tyrrell was the winner of a design contest by the Ohio Arts Council with the idea of creating art to occupy this space.
