Program Information for Computer Technology Endorsement Preparation - Non-Degree

Program Description

Full Description

The Computer Technology Endorsement Preparation non-degree program is intended for teachers who plan to teach computer applications or who want to assume technology coordinator positions in a school or at the school district level.

This endorsement must be added to an existing teaching license and cannot be obtained independently as a separate licensure. Students who hold a master’s degree in education or another appropriate field may be able to earn the endorsement with this non-degree program. Students without a master's degree may work toward both a master’s degree and the endorsement by applying to the , Computer Technology Endorsement Preparation concentration.

This program is designed to prepare students to sit for applicable licensure or certification in Ohio. Licensure Information

Prior to program completion, the candidate must demonstrate proficiencies in the following areas (including but not limited to): data literacy and analysis; use of research and assessment data; leadership and collaboration; utilizing and supporting appropriate technology for the discipline; and application of professional dispositions, laws and policies, codes of ethics and professional standards appropriate to their field of specialization.

Candidates seeking Ohio teaching licensure are required to pass specific requirements in order to apply for licensure from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). Students must pass the Ohio Assessment Exam (OAE) to obtain this licensure. Students should consult the Educational Technology program area for specific program requirements and refer to the Ohio Department of Education - Educator Preparation website for more information on assessments specific to licensure type.

The Teaching and Learning with Technology undergraduate certificate provides students with the tools to acquire the knowledge and concrete skills to deploy educational technology theories and strategies in multiple fields while working at educational institutions, communication-related companies, public health entities and other industries.

This certificate is for both students in an education or non-education field. Education students will strengthen their know-how in learning innovations while being exposed to interdisciplinary stimuli and references and expanding their professional and academic horizon. Non-education students will access the most recent best practices in educational technology, applying them in their own field of reference and beyond.

Admissions for Teaching and Learning with Technology - Undergraduate Certificate

Admission Requirements

The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students.

First-Year Students on the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Campus: First-year admission policy on the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Campus is selective. Admission decisions are based upon cumulative grade point average, strength of high school college preparatory curriculum and grade trends. Students not admissible to the ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ Campus may be administratively referred to one of the seven regional campuses to begin their college coursework. For more information, visit the .

First-Year Students on the Regional Campuses: First-year admission to ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State’s campuses at Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Salem, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas, as well as the Twinsburg Academic Center, is open to anyone with a high school diploma or its equivalent. For more information on admissions, contact the Regional Campuses admissions offices.

International Students: All international students must provide proof of proficiency of the English language (unless they meet specific exceptions) through the submission of an English language proficiency test score or by completing English language classes at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State’s English as a Second Language Center before entering their program. Former Students: Former ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State students who have not attended another institution since ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State and were not academically dismissed will complete the re-enrollment process through the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center. Former students who attended another college or university since leaving ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State must apply for admissions as a transfer or post-undergraduate student.

Admissions for Teaching and Learning with Technology - Minor

Admission Requirements

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.

To declare this minor, students must have attempted a minimum 12 credit hours at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State and earned a minimum 2.000 overall ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State GPA. Students who have not attempted 12 credit hours at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State will be evaluated for admission based on their high school GPA for new students or transfer GPA for transfer students. Transfer students who have not attempted 12 credit hours of college-level coursework at ºìÐÓÊÓÆµ State and/or other institutions will be evaluated based on both their high school GPA and college GPA.
